Early Life and Career

Born on July 25th, 1953, Walter Payton was an exceptional football player from a young age. He played college football at Jackson State University, where he set numerous records and earned All-American honors.

Payton was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1975 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as one of the league's most dominant players, setting several rushing records.

Accomplishments and Legacy

Over his 13 seasons with the Bears, Payton earned nine Pro Bowl selections and was named NFL Most Valuable Player in 1977. He holds the NFL record for career rushing yards (16,726) and rushing touchdowns (110).

Payton retired from the NFL in 1987 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993. His legacy as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history remains intact.

Sadly, Payton passed away from a rare liver disease on November 1st, 1999, at the age of 45.
